لم تقتصر الجهود الدبلوماسية والمعنوية التي بذلها الفاتيكان على قضية الغزو لأنها لم تتوقف مع إعلان التحرير بل امتدا لتشمل كل التداعيات والمآسي جراء هذه الكارثة فقد ظل الفاتيكان على اتصال دائم بالمسؤولين الكويتيين وحث الجهات المعنية في الأمم المتحدة على متابعة حسن تطبيق القرارات الدولية المرابطة بهذه القضية ولكن أهم ما فعله الفاتيكان كان متابعة قضية الأسرى والمفقودين
