يدور هذا البحث حول تاريخ ترميم جامع و مدرسة الاشرفية الواقعة في مدينة تعز ، الجمهورية اليمنية . والتعريف بها كونها تقدم صورة لظاهرة بناء المدارس التي انتشرت في اليمن خلال القرون الثالث عشر وحتى الخامس عشر الميلادي ، حين كانت اليمن تحت حكم الدولة الرسولية ، التي كان لها الفضل الكبير في نشر المدارس على اوسع نطاق في مناطق حكمها . 
ويعتبر جامع ومدرسة الاشرفية نموذج للمدرسة المتكاملة بمعناها الاوسع كمجمع علمي من الناحية النظرية للوظيفة ، فقد ضمنت عبر التاريخ اكثر من مستوى دراسي . 
ومن الناحية المعمارية يعتبر الجامع محققا لكافة الاهداف التصميمية من خلال توزيع الفراغات وتقسيم تلك الوظائف ادى الى ظهور تصميم معماري متكامل و مترابط ، وايضا من النواحي الفنية والزخرفية وتوظيفها . 
واهم ما يستخلصه البحث هو دراسة الوضع الراهن ومدى تواؤم البناء مع البيئة المحيطة ، الذي جعلها تعيش لاكثر من ستمائة سنة ، لا تزال حتى اليوم شاخصة بأبرز معالمها ، بالرغم من العوامل المسببة للخراب .
متناولا اساليب الحفاظ والترميم بمراحلها المختلفة التي ساهمت ببقائها ، 
وتنتهي الدراسة بتقييم لعمليات الحفاظ و الترميم السابقة و وضع اقتراحات وتوصيات للحفاظ على المبنى باعتباره تراثاً معماريا يجب المحافظة عليه .
