أولا : تم الوصول إلى نظرية الانفجار الكبير عن طريق التمدد الكوني ، و ترجع بدايات فكرة تمدد الكون إلى العالم الفيزيائي الألماني جوستاف كيرشوف Gustav Kirchhoff الذي تحقق من أن أية جسم مادي (ومنها النجوم) سيصدر منه ضوء أو إشعاع عند تسخينه تماماً مثلما يتوهج الفحم بالتسخين ، وسبب صدور ذلك الضوء هو الحركة الحرارية للذرات التي داخل هذه الأجسام.
