حسن الخلق يكون بحلاوة اللسان واحتمال الأذى والصبر عليه، وقد كان النبي صلىّ الله عليه وسلـم قد أوصى أبو هريرة بوصيّة عظيمة جليلة ذات يوم، فقال له صلّى الله عليه وسلـم: (يا أبا هريرة، عليك بحسن الخلق)، فقال أبو هريرة للنبيّ عليه الصلاة والسلام وما حسن الخلق يا رسول الله؟ فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلـم: ( أن تصل من قطعك وأن تعفوا عمّن ظلمك وأن تعطي من حرمك). حثّ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلـم المسلمين عامّةً بهذا الحديث على أن يتخلّقوا بالأخلاق الحميدة وأن يعاملوا الناس بالحسنى؛ حيث وضّح رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلـم مكارم الأخلاق للناس والتي هي من أهم وأجمل الصفات التي لازمت الأنبياء والصدّيقين والشهداء والصالحين، فبها ينال أصحاب الصلاح الدرجات، وبها تُرفع مقاماتهم في الدنيا والآخرة.
