ليس من الضروري دائمًا اخلاء المبنى بشكل كامل للنجاة من الحريق، و يجوز ان يكون بالمبنى منطقة اخلاء افقية محمية من الدخان او تسرب الغازات من الادوار او الاجزاء الاخرى بالمبنى. تسمح هذه الاماكن المحمية بأمان نسبي حتى زوال حالة الطواريء
