وقد روى مسلم وغيره أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: (صيام يوم عرفة أحتسب على الله أن يكفر السنة التي قبله والسنة التي بعده).فالحديث يدل بظاهره على أن صيام يوم عرفة يكفر ذنوب سنتين.
