وتتنوع مجالات التنمية في المجتمع المحلي وفق الغاية المنشودة المتعلقة باحداث تغيير شامل في حياة المجتمع وقد يكون مادي عبر تحسين الوضع الاقتصادي او معنوي عبر زيادة المعارف والتوجهات والمهارات والسلوك لدى الافراد، وهما مرتبطان ببعضهما البعض عند ممارسة العملية التنموية (العمر، 2011).
