خلصت الدراسة الى ان العلاج النفسي ساهم في زيادة وزن هؤلاء النساء اللواتي لم يتعد وزنهن قبل ذلك ٤٦.٥ في المتوسط. ولم يحدث هذا الامر الا بمعدل بطئ، الا انه كان بشكل مستمر، كما استمرت النتائج الإيجابية بعد انتهاء الطرق العلاجية الثلاث ايضاً. ويمتاز كل من العلاج المعرفي والعلاج التحليلي العميق بانه يتيح للمرأة الخضوع له خارج المستشفى.


ويسجل هذا المرض اعلى معدلات وفاة، اذ يلقى خمسة من كل ١٠٠ مريض حتفهم في غضون ١٠ سنوات من الإصابة ولا سيما من المراهقات اللواتي يمثلن الفئة الأكثر تعرضا للمرض به.
