وهذا السرطان متواجد لدى حوالي 30% من الرجال بدون أي أعراض سريرية بعد تجاوزهم 50سنة من العمر كما أظهرته عدة اختبارات تشريحية على رجال توفوا بسبب أمراض لا علاقة لها بهذا الورم وتزيد نسبة تشخيصه إلى حوالي 80% بعد سن 85 سنة.
