ان المشكلة السكانية تعتبر القضية الاولى التي تواجه جهود التنميه ١٩٨٦ -1996ية في مصر التي بلغ تعداد سكانها حوالي ٨٠ مليون نسمة عام 2008، كما ان نتائج تعداد ٢٠٠٦ تؤكد عدم وجود اختلاف بذكر في نسب الزيادة السكانية خلال العقدين الماضيين، حيث بلغت هذة النسبة حوالي ٢٢.٤% خلال الفترة 1996-2006، مقابل ٢٢.9% للفترة السابقة
