السدود هي انشاءات هندسيه تقام فوق وادي او منخفض والهدف منها حجز المياه، والسدود هي اقدم المنشأة المائية التي تساهم في تنمية موارد المياه ويتم الاستفادة منها في الري والزراعة والثروة الحيوانية وفي الصناعة. السدود لها أهمية كبرى في عمان فهي تحمي من الفيضانات و الامطار الغزيرة،تتحمل السدود المياه و الطمي مما يؤدي الى ترسبها و يمنع تدفقها الى المصب مما يؤدي الى تأكل مجرى النهر بتزايد الرواسب المتراكمة في الخزانات والسدود ويختلف معدل الترسبات من سد الى اخر مما يؤدي الى اخذ مساحة في الخزان ويمنع حفظ المياه في السد. ويؤدي الى انخفاض المياه وتأثر الرواسب على كفائه السدود وبالتالي السد سوف يحتاج الى صيانه، والتخلص من هذه الرواسب صيانه السدود مكلفه وصيانتها متعبه.

And leads to lower water and sediment affected efficient dams and hence the dam will need maintenance and get rid of these deposits and maintain expensive dam tired.

It protects from flooding and heavy rains, bore dam water and silt, which leads to the deposition and prevent the flow to the estuary leading to erosion downstream increasing accumulated sediment in the reservoirs and dams varies deposits rate from dam to another, leading to taking up space in the tank and prevents water conservation in the dam. And lead to reduced water and sediment influenced by the efficiency of the dams and therefore the dam will require maintenance, and disposal of these sediments maintenance of dams and expensive maintenance tiring.
