تعتبر مخاطر السيولة من أهم المخاطر التي قد يتعرض لها القطاع المصرفي بصفة عامة أو بنك معين بصفة خاصة، وتأخذ بعين الاعتبار احتمالية عدم قدرة البنك على تلبية متطلبات التمويل بتكلفة معقولة (مخاطر تمويل السيولة)، أو عدم القدرة على تصفية مراكزه بالسرعة المعقولة مع المحافظة على السعر المناسب (مخاطر سيولة السوق).
