رغم القرارات الداعمة لتشجيع عمل المرأة في القطاع الخاص ، فإن واقع نسبة مشاركتها في القوى العاملة لاتزال ضعيفة ودون المأمول فبحسب ماذكرته صحيفة المدينة في عدد 17أبريل2010م تصل نسبة مساهمة المرأة السعودية العاملة في التنمية حالياً إلى 10% فقط من حجم قوة العمل الوطنية بحسب تقديرات خطة التنمية الثامنة حيث تتركز وظائف النساء في المملكة في قطاعي التعليم والصحة، الأمر الذي يجعل هناك هدراً اقتصادياً إذا ما قورن بحجم الإنفاق المالي على تعليمها مع مساهمتها بالتنمية.

وللرفع من نسبة مساهمة المرأة في التنمية، صدرت قرارات عديدة لزيادة فرص ومجالات عمل المرأة في شتى المجالات في القطاعين الحكومي والخاص واكبت هذه القرارات قرارات أخرى تنظم عملية توظيفها في القطاع الخاص ومتابعتها في مواقع عملها, وضمان جميع حقوقها وتوفير البيئة المناسبة لها لتعمل وتنتج وتشارك الرجل في مسيرة التنمية بما يوفر لها العيش الكريم من خلال فتح مجالات أوسع للعمل بما يناسب متطلباتها واحتياجاتها.
