وتكمن اهمية المشاركة المجتمعية في انها تزيد من تماسك افراد المجتمع المحلي، وتزيد من قدرتهم واكسابهم مهارات جديدة بحيث يصبحوا قوة مؤثرة، وتنمي شخصية الافراد عبر خوض التجربة العملية في القضايا التي تؤثر على حياتهم. اضافة الى ان مساهمة الافراد تدعم ترابط المجتمع وتجعله ابعد ما يكون عن التفكك والتداعي. وبالمحصلة فان مساهمة الافراد بمشاركتهم المجتمعية هي بحد ذاتها عملية تمكين لهم وتحقيقا لمزيد من الديمقراطية.
