دشن ولي العهد وزير الداخلية الأمير محمد بن نايف بن عبدالعزيز الخطة التنفيذية لاستراتيجية الجوازات آلياً ومشروع هوية مقيم.
وسيتم من خلال المشروع تغيير مسمى رخصة إقامة إلى (هوية مقيم)، حيث تتميز هذه الهوية بأن مدة صلاحيتها خمس سنوات يتم تجديدها آلياً (سنة أو سنتين)، ويمكن الاستفسار عن المدة المتبقية من الإقامة آلياً عبر موقع الخدمات الإلكترونية للجوازات بحيث لا يكون هناك حاجة لطباعة الهوية عند تجديدها.
وبحسب المديرية العامة للجوازات، فإنه سيتم البدء بإصدار هوية مقيم اعتباراً من تاريخ 1/1/1437هـ، تزامناً مع تجهيز جميع الوسائل اللازمة والتي تمكن رجال الأمن في الميدان أو الإدارات والجهات الحكومية والخاصة معرفة تاريخ انتهاء الإقامة.
